Who do you know who has a drug or alcohol problem?
In the absence of services in South East Queensland – a new organization called Defining Futures is starting up – providing alcohol and drug treatment services for young men in a residential setting AND providing a non-residential program for men and women – this will include a pre-sentencing program.
Defining Futures has not received any funding from any source other than client tariffs and the Community and will be looking for your support.
Lobby your local politician to get some action about this. Services are terrible. The cost to the community is extremely high and if our community doesn’t take action now – our loved ones, our children and their children will continue being caught in the vicious cycle of addiction.
We can change this.
I know that parents friends and relatives who have had the misfortune to witness this disease in their loved ones have already done so much. There is still a bit more to do. Lobby politicians – especially your local politician. If there is an election or by-election on in your region – ask all the candidates about their attitude and or support for alcohol and drug treatment services in your region. The facts are simple. Communities do not have enough treatment beds to deal with the problem of alcohol and drugs. Our elected leaders are responsible for taking action and they will not do anything unless we ALL demand that they take action. Elect the politicians that are willing to take action.
